Wei Yun and Chu Yu are led to a room where voices of a man and a woman are fooling around. The Crown Prince was inside and was cheating on Song Wenchang’s sister, Song Qingping (Huang Riying)—also known as Tuantuan, who’s betrothed to the Crown Prince. This fact is the reason Song Wenchang had tracked the Crown Prince down.
Wei Yun was not impressed when he discovered that Song Wenchang had agreed to help with a motive—he wanted Wei Yun to help him catch the Crown Prince in the act. Song Wenchang explains that he had intended to speak with the Crown Prince about his cheating.
However, with Wei Yun wanting to see the Crown Prince and he himself receiving information about the Crown Prince’s whereabouts from an eunuch he bribed, he figured they could both achieve what they were after in one go. He also defends that since they couldn’t go straight to the Eastern Palace to look for the Crown Prince, as it would look bad, this was the only place he knew he’d be.
Wei Yun’s still unimpressed and is cursing himself for asking Song Wenchang for his help. He now has to see the Crown Prince, where they must interrupt him and his lady in this kind of situation. There was no polite way of doing it except barging on in there. He had attempted twice—first, he thought about kicking his way in there, but he couldn’t do it. The second time, he tried mustering up the courage to get in there but hesitated. In the end, he was pushed in there by Chu Yu.
Li Huan may be the Crown Prince, but the respect better Wei Yun and Song Wenchang have is just formalities. Li Huan threatens to punish them for barging in without invitation, but when Song Wenchang challenges him to do it, Li Huan shrinks from using his position to carry out his threat of punishment. There’s a familiarity and closeness between Li Huan and Song Wenchang. They seem to be friends.
Wei Yun also has Li Huan realise that insisting on punishment would mean that the Crown Prince is exposing himself to cheating with a dancer. Wei Yun admits that forcing into his quarters is a capital offence, and so he will go to His Majesty and accept punishment. Chu Yu joins in and admits she too will return to the Eldest Princess who has sent her and beg for her pardon. Song Wenchang initially doesn’t get what Wei Yun or Chu Yu were doing, but when he catches on, he, too, threatens to return to his place and inform his father and Tuantuan about it.
They all turn to appear as if they’re all leaving to go directly to the people they said they would to confess their insolence, knowing Li Huan will back down. Back down he does. He drops the threat and only tells them off for not choosing an appropriate place to talk about their requests.
Wei Yun and Chu Yu return home, believing their goals have been achieved. The silk bundle Chu Yu received is read as serving dual-purpose goals like the help Song Wenchang offered Wei Yun. The first purpose of the silk bundle is to lead Chu Yu to the inn, catch the Crown Prince in the act, and help Li Changming as well as Tuantuan give the Crown Prince a warning. The second purpose is to help the Wei family by getting in contact with the Crown Prince.
Chu Yu’s thought of having her catch Li Huan in the act has her confused as to why Li Changming would do that because such knowledge harms the royal family’s reputation. This thought sees Wei Yun provide that it’s because Li Changming cares more about Tuantuan than Li Huan. She’s the one who has been treating Li Changming’s chronic headaches and has helped her a lot.
It was looking quite positive for a successful inheritance of the Marquis of Zhenguo title. But on the actual day of the banquet, things looked bleak. Two hours passed by, and still not a single person came. The children were getting hungry.
Wei Yun makes the decision to sit at the table and have the kitchen prepare to serve dishes. As they wait, Zhang Han uses it to make a request for her late husband’s treasured spear when she leaves the Wei household following this final gathering together. Jiang Chun makes a suggestion of leaving the spear in the Wei household, as the collection of spears will appear as if the brothers have all reunited. Wei Yun can’t bear to part with his brother’s spear, but he thinks it’s the best use of it. If it allows Zhang Han and any of the sisters-in-law to remember the days here with his brothers, then they should take the spear with them.
Wei Yun moves to have them all start eating and wait no longer for guests, but Chu Yu holds them off from it. Chu Yu hangs on to the belief that people will show up and makes a bet with Wei Yun with the flip of a coin that people will show up.
The coin flip sides with Chu Yu. Sure enough, they do not long after. Her brother and sister, Chu Linyang and Chu Jin (respectively), show up. It’s not quite the powerful support they were hoping for, but Chu Linyang’s arrival sees him reveal that on his way to the Marquis of Zhenguo’s Mansion, he saw many carriages. The support looks to have been there. It’s just that they were waiting for the right moment to show up and see who shows up first.
Right after saying this, Li Changming and Xue Hanmei show up. With such powerful support as Great Sui’s Eldest Princess showing up, a steady flow of guests arrive—Young Master Sun, Gu Chusheng, Censor Chen, and Vice Minister Tong. Wei Yun personally goes up to him to invite Gu Chusheng in, albeit with a frown.
Song Wenchang, Song Shilan, and Song Qingping arrive. Song Wenchang brings with him a supposed miniature mountain, which has them flabbergasted, with some mocking the gift as just a rock. With many not understanding the thought and symbolism behind the gift, Song Wenchang explains that it’s meant to articulate his hope for Wei Yun: “That he stands firm like Mount Tai, unshaken in hardship, and rises should he fall.” After this explanation, many smile and appreciate the meaning behind the gift.
Song Wenchang is such a good friend. The gift might be a bit eccentric and unconventional, but his heart is definitely in it! Haha. He actually had this specifically made for Wei Yun. He wanted it to resemble Mount Tai and gift it to Wei Yun to wish him steadiness and strength as the Marquis of Zhenguo.
Wei Yun’s yet to officially become the Marquis of Zhenguo, though. It has Wei Yun defeatedly remind him it’s a Thanksgiving banquet and Chu Jin bluntly state the fact that no title has been bestowed even after all this time.
Song Wenchang turns to address Chu Jin, whom he will later become his love interest. He makes a remark about her being beautiful but has such a sour tongue. After Chu Jin is introduced to Song Wenchang as Chu Yu’s sister, he has her see that his congratulations are not without grounds. His gaze directed to the entrance, he loudly calls on his friend, the Crown Prince, to show up already. Li Huan arrives as Song Wenchang suggests.
A flashback to the discussion between Wei Yun and Chu Yu showed Li Huan not too concerned about whether the Wei family fell or not. His support was towards the civil faction as it offered gains for himself. He wasn’t worried about his father finding out about the disruption he was knowingly causing to the delicate balance between the two factions by choosing a side. In his mind, as the only heir, there was no threat to his future inheritance of the throne.
But Wei Yun and Chu Yu have him see that without the Wei clan, the threat to his throne isn’t internal but external. Amongst the generals, only the Wei clan can deter foreign enemies. If the Wei clan falls, and Great Sui and North Qi go to war again, Li Huan would have to lead the army himself. The suggestion here is he might not get the chance to inherit the throne if Great Sui can’t defend itself, or if he does manage to inherit the throne, he may not be able to sit on the throne for long.
So, with Li Huan having thought it through, Wei Yun officially receives the title of Marquis of Zhenguo of Great Sui by way of decree and is appointed Commander of the Arsenal Bureau. He is granted the Fish Tally that grants access to the Bureau, which sees Chu Yu quite pleased—access to the Arsenal Bureau is finally within reach.
There is still a slight matter that needs resolving—the rumours of Wei Yun going to the Fragrance House and getting himself a bit of a poor reputation. In order to ensure public support is also there, the rumours are explained away by making Song Wenchang take all the blame, telling one of the officials who brought it up that Wei Yun’s presence at the Fragrance House was his stepping in to help Song Wenchang, who had caused trouble there. Song Wenchang was not impressed with Li Huan, but for Wei Yun, Song Wenchang publicly takes all the blame.
With Wei Yun having been given the Fish Tally to enter the Arsenal Bureau, Chu Yu signals with a look to her brother that she is going to sneak away to the back of the mansion to search for it. Wei Yun, who notices her leaving the group, looks to go after her, but he’s blocked by Chu Linyang, who holds him back by expressing his congratulations with a drink.
Gu Chusheng notices Chu Yu slipping away to the back. He’s figured out that she’s investigating a case and lets her know that he’s been promoted to the Minister of the Court of Judicial Review and can help her. Although he doesn’t have the evidence at this point, he believes that the Lord of Qi treason case is linked to the Chu and Wei families.
So far, what he has discovered from going through the Lord of Qin treason case is that the woman Lord of Qin fell in love and had a son with turned out to be Princess Yunyang of North Qi. Upon returning from the south, where he met Princess Yunyang, Lord of Qin was accused of collusion. Seemingly, while the case was being investigated, the North Qi Princess had taken Great Sui’s secrets and their son and fled back to North Qi, causing Great Sui to lose three of its cities.
Hearing this, Chu Yu surmises that it’s possible that since Lord of Qin was framed and Gu Chusheng’s father was framed, then it’s possible that all of this could be part of North Qi’s protracted scheme to conquer Great Sui. This scheme is what Gu Chusheng believes could be behind what had happened in Baidi Valley, and it’s this belief that has him suspect Chu Yu for marrying into the Wei family.
Chu Yu seems upset Gu Chusheng could even ask her about what she’s trying to uncover. It was Gu Chusheng she went to for help with convincing Emperor Chunde for reinforcements at Fengling City but was refused by him despite the help he got from her father to spare him after the defeat. Of all people, he should at least know it has something to do with the events at the Battle of Fengling, where her father died in battle.
Chu Yu accuses him of forgetting, which Gu Chusheng denies. He also tried to defend his actions; had he not made it to the Court of Judicial Review, he wouldn’t have known any of this. He seems to suggest that it’s not too late. He doesn’t get to complete it, though, as Chu Yu interrupts him, telling him that it is too late. Possibly, she’s suggesting it’s too late for him to try to make amends and help.
The discussion is interrupted by a small canister of narcotic incense Young Master Sun had thrown in. As well as the animosity which Young Master Sun had towards Chu Yu when he aligned with Cao Yan, Young Master Sun also shares animosity towards Chu Yu because of all the negative things Chu Jin has told him about her. Seemingly having followed Chu Yu to the room sometime in the night, he uses this opportunity to knock them both out so that he bring some shame to their reputations when they’re caught lying across from each other in the room.
Fortunately, the plan fails. Chu Yu and Gu Chusheng do fall unconscious, but the situation is saved by Wei Yun, who had come by to send Gu Chusheng off in a carriage with Wang Linlang. When doors are opened, only Chu Yu is there, and Young Master Sun is taken to the magistrate for his trick.
Wang Linlang was not happy with Gu Chusheng when she learnt of his attendance at the banquet. Wang Linlang reveals that her father was against him attending it, but he still insisted on going. This defiance is not seen as going against her father but is seen as Gu Chusheng being unable to let Chu Yu go in his heart.
Chu Linyang leaves Chu Jin chasing after him as he expresses his disappointment towards her for doing nothing to stop Young Master Sun from attempting to embarrass their sister in front of people. Before Young Master Sun led everyone to the room, he had gone to Chu Jin to tell her that he had drugged Chu Yu and had locked her up with Gu Chusheng to help her get back at Chu Yu.
Chu Jin didn’t scold him. Her voice even sounded a bit pleased. Then she just let Young Master Sun call everyone’s attention to tell them to follow him to view an interesting secret rendezvous, suggesting there was a couple in a room fooling around with each other during such an event.
Because of Chu Jin’s hate towards her sister, Chu Yu had her use every bit of strength to remain upright when Young Master Sun tried to make a fool of her in front of everyone. She continues to struggle to stand at the end of the night.
Unable to find a physician so late at night to see to Chu Yu’s state, Tuantuan offers her medical skills, which she learned through self-study. It’s help which Tuantuan has wanted to offer ever since Chu Yu helped her with the matter of the Crown Prince fooling around with a woman at Yuelai Inn. She’s wanted to pay Chu Yu back in some form or another, and this was her opportunity. It’s an offer which Chu Linyang accepts.
Ending the episode, Chu Yu asks Wei Yun if he could escort her back to her room, as she’s still unable to stand or walk herself. Wei Yun obliges and comes off a little playful even. He asks whether she wants to be in his arms or on his back. Chu Yu responds, “Can I choose neither?”
The relationship between Chu Yu and Wei Yun feels a bit nicer. Wei Yun’s still watching her, but he’s not as in her face as in the previous episodes. That last scene at the end when he asked whether she wanted to be in his arms or on his back, we’re sure that was him teasing her. He came off a bit playful. Chu Yu appears to be the same with her response. It’s a small development between Chu Yu and Wei Yun, but we like it!
