So, there’s no satisfying moment of seeing Zhu Dan’s smug attitude being brought down with this development. But, there’s development that gets closer to revealing the truth of Zhu Dan being the plagiariser of Li Yan Shu’s design. We have to wait a bit more to see the truth come out. For now, it’s Li Yan Shu needing to fix the reputation of New Face.
The Fox’s Summer – Episode 7 Recap
Complaints from customers come into Sheng Hong about Zhu Dan’s lingerie product. There are complaints of the underwire of the bra being a safety hazard, it being ill-fitting and the material being uncomfortable.
Zhu Dan doesn’t see fault within the design of her product. She reasons this with the fact that no problems were found when they had models try the product. She directs the fault towards the production department. But, they reject this, explaining that they have a strict process in place and followed detailed design plans. They return the fault back to Zhu Dan, bringing up the fact of Li Yan Shu having raised issues with her design.
Gu Cheng Ze gives the reports on the product to Li Yan Shu to read. A brief look at them, Li Yan Shu isn’t surprised by what she reads. She expresses already knowing the issues the customers raised for Zhu Dan’s product.
Li Yan Shu expressing knowledge of the issues doesn’t impress Gu Cheng Ze at all. He asks why she didn’t stop things from proceeding. He wonders if it’s because the product was Zhu Dan’s design that she allowed this outcome to eventuate. Li Yan Shu indicates having tried stopping things. But, she was up against a strong opposition. That strong opposition was Gu Jin Yun—her superior.
Li Yan Shu:
“I wasn’t the person who made the decision. It’s Gu Jin Yun. I tried to warn him. I tried to stop him. However, he just wouldn’t listen to me.”
“He’s my boss, my superior. He was determined to having it his way. Do I get in his face and protest?”
Gu Cheng Ze finds Li Yan Shu hadn’t done everything she could to prevent this from occurring when she failed to go to him with the problem.
Gu Cheng Ze:
“As the CEO, I didn’t receive any sort of a report from you. There wasn’t even an email. Even if it was Gu Jin Yun who made the error, why didn’t you come find me?—unless, it’s that you feel I don’t have the right to know about it. You should put a hand to your heart and ask yourself if you have given your all to this job.”
Gu Cheng Ze doesn’t only look at Li Yan Shu’s actions leading to the failed product of New Face and bringing about losses to the company and wasting months of work. He finds himself also needing to share the responsibility for contributing to the failure of the product.
Gu Cheng Ze:
“I also have fault in this matter. You simply don’t have the capability or competence required for this job. You also don’t have the sense of responsibility that’s required for this position. It’s my error to put you in the position. Therefore, I’m also at fault.”
Li Yan Shu pulls an all-nighter to come up with a proposal after these words from Gu Cheng Ze. She comes up with a proposal repackaging New Face’s image with getting a popular celebrity who’s known for receiving offers to endorse high fashion brands. The celebrity is Hai Lian Na. Hai Lian Na is a celebrity who is told to have never endorsed lingerie product. This is another reason why Li Yan Shu wishes to invite Hai Lian Na to be a spokesperson for New Face. It will grab attention.
Gu Jin Yun objects to the proposal. He sees it as detrimental to the company’s image by way of him, their Chief Operating Officer, becoming not charming anymore. Using Hai Lian Na as the spokesperson for New Face, Gu Jin Yun foresees the rumoured relationship with Hai Lian Na becoming news of Hai Lian Na being friends with him only for his family background and social status. This, Gu Jin Yun says, sees him as a man with no charm. His image is Sheng Hong’s image.
Gu Cheng Ze dismisses Gu Jin Yun’s objection. He approves Li Yan Shu’s proposal and gives the order to execute it.
Coming in, Gu Cheng Ze starts to question whether Li Yan Shu had plagiarised Zhu Dan’s design when he finds Li Yan Shu’s notebook with the sketch looking similar to the one Zhu Dan presented at the interview. With Li Yan Shu’s drawing book on the table, Gu Cheng Ze has Secretary Gao look at two copies of the sketch of Zhu Dan’s lingerie product. He asks Secretary Gao to find differences between the drawings.

Gu Cheng Ze in a meeting with Zhu Dan, the production department and customer services department after customers call in complaining about Sheng Hong’s lingerie product to be full of flaws.
Li Yan Shu wasn’t at the meeting or in the office when Sheng Hong came to know of the failed lingerie product that had Gu Cheng Ze urgently call a meeting to discuss about it. Her absence in the office was due to carrying out an errand for Gu Jin Yun. She was out in the streets chasing a dog belonging to one of Gu Jin Yun’s female friends and delivering his cake for her. Gu Jin Yun’s female friend is the sought after model, Hai Lian Na.
Gu Cheng Ze’s neighbour finds Li Yan Shu outside by herself and drinking a couple of beers in the evening. Li Yan Shu clears the misunderstanding he has of her relationship with Gu Cheng Ze. The time Li Yan Shu spends with Gu Cheng Ze’s neighbour helps her come up with the proposal to repackage New Face when she gets an idea from a poster ad in the vicinity and it reminds her of her encounter with Hai Lian Na earlier in the day.
Gu Cheng Ze finds Li Yan Shu’s sketchbook in her room. He finds the sketch of the lingerie design that Zhu Dan plagiarised.
Zhu Dan at it again with copying Li Yan Shu’s design during the meeting where Li Yan Shu presents her proposal to invite Hai Lian Na to be New Face’s spokesperson. Gu Cheng Ze catches sight of this.
Gu Cheng Ze asks Secretary Gao to find the differences between two copies of the sketch of the lingerie design that Li Yan Shu had supposedly plagiarised.
