The Perfect Match – 極品絕配 (2017), Episode 6

The Perfect Match, Episode 6

Eventful; normal atmosphere; not much zany comedy; still very funny; great character developments and progression on the romance plot.

It’s an episode that focused on the friendship between Ah Wei and Wei Fen Qing. A rift in their friendship arises when they clash in views on handling Wei Cheng Yang’s situation.

There was a feel of Terry—that is, Ouyang Tai, and Bai Zong You in this episode for Huo Ting En. These are characters Wu Kang Ren played in the dramas, Princess’ Stand In and What is Love. The breakdown in friendship between Ah Wei and Wei Fen Qing has Huo Ting En looking like an outsider in a strong relationship he’s forced to stand and watch and allow the one he wants to be important to strengthen/mend the relationship with his love rival. This is Terry/Ouyang Tai of Princess’ Stand In. And there’s Huo Ting En’s funny antics with Peng Xiao Bin. This is Bai Zong You of What Is Love. The mix of the two characters is Huo Ting En in this episode anid we loved it!

Episode 6 was a really good episode. The end of the episode came without us even realising it. We actually went into a few seconds of the preview of the next episode which we always try not to do. (We don’t like watching spoilers.) But it’s indication of a satisfying episode when we don’t notice the end has come! :oD :oD. We hope for more episodes like this one. :o) :o) A really good watch! Serious, funny and full of good character and relationship developments!

The leader of rowdy diners accept their apologies on behalf of their group and scolds the underling sitting across him for being rowdy when he knew they were.

A food reporter appears at the side of Wei Fen Qing after resolving the commotion, wishing to interview her. With Huo Ting En’s permission, Wei Fen Qing accommodates the reporter. Peng Xiao Bin follow Wei Fen Qing to the interview. While Peng Xiao Bin is there to get some media exposure to promote La Mure that also doubled as a chance to let female viewers know of his single status and availability, Wei Fen Qing does well to provide a warm-hearted response to the reporter’s question of how she was feeling towards the situation that had just taken place. Wei Fen Qing is happy and excited. She hopes the guests will return once more and taste La Mure’s dishes in a happy and sober state where the efforts all the chefs have put into the dishes is able to be relayed to the hearts of the guests.

This media reporter was invited by Meng Ru Xi. Meng Ru Xi lets Huo Ting En know she was the one to have invited the reporter to La Mure. Huo Ting En seem to find the gesture unnecessary. He appears to not regard highly of media evaluations or food blogger evaluations when he tells Meng Ru Xi that diners are the ones who should be the judge of whether a restaurant and its food is good or not.

After service, we find Wei Fen Qing’s warm-hearted response was a façade when she gives Peng Xiao Bin the business card of the leader of the rowdy group and tells him to never accept their reservation. He must put them on the blacklist. This attitude that differs to the one she showed to the reporter has Huo Ting En wonder whether she had taken in any of the things he had said when he pulled her outside to have a talk after her poor handling of the rowdy diners. It makes him wonder if it’s that she saw his actions of placing her at the front of the house as punishment and the things he says is not worth believing.

Wei Fen Qing tells Huo Ting En it isn’t that at all. She believes him and his words. The words he said to her in the past makes her believe he won’t harm her. She explains the reason for not listening when Huo Ting En asks for the reason for her reaction towards him: she is his mishap. With the story of the origin of Curry Crab where a silly chef had mistaken curry powder for pepper powder and added it to the crab and served it to the customers who then loved it and the dish lifted off, Wei Fen Qing’s meaning of saying ‘she is his mishap’ seems to be that she is saying she is the unexpected, but fitting thing that entered his life by accident and she’s creating something great.

Huo Ting En understands and likes the sound of how she’s described their relationship with this story about the origin of Curry Crab. After Wei Fen Qing exits from him to head back into the restaurant, Huo Ting En expresses his desire to experience her next performance. He’s looking forward to it very much.

Peng Xiao Bin has a talk to Huo Ting En about his actions this evening regarding Wei Fen Qing and her situation with the rowdy diners. He’s never known him to care to help someone like he had this evening with Wei Fen Qing. Huo Ting En says Wei Fen Qing is his apprentice. He’s not ever accepted one until now—that is to say, it’s his duty to teach her about good culinary and customer service skills.

Peng Xiao Bin feels Huo Ting En needs to think about what he can do to keep her. He says to Huo Ting En he knows him well, seemingly believing Huo Ting En has to be seeing Wei Fen Qing as more than just an apprentice. He asks Huo Ting En to think about this when the end of the 7 days is fast approaching.

Gina also seems to feel Huo Ting En may be viewing Wei Fen Qing as more than just an apprentice when, with her analogy of how mediocre and ordinary food can become mum’s cooking and the taste of home, responding to Huo Tian Zhi’s curiosity with what Huo Ting En thought of the hangover soup she gave to him earlier in the day and letting him know Huo Ting En hadn’t reacted much to it, Wei Fen Qing is becoming a habit who is becoming someone familiar the more she’s around him. She recalled the way his attention was on Wei Fen Qing when she was talking to him after giving him the hangover soup. Meng Ru Xi hopes this is not the case, however. She hopes Wei Fen Qing is simply a talent Huo Ting En has taken on and not someone he loves and cherishes.

We head into the section where Ah Wei wishes to help Wei Fen Qing with Wei Cheng Yang’s irresponsible behaviour. However, he also understands Wei Cheng Yang’s view of things when he himself had experienced what Wei Cheng Yang is experiencing now. Wei Fen Qing and Ah Wei clash in views. It creates a rift in their friendship.

A talk Ah Wei has with Wei Cheng Yang reveals Wei Cheng Yang isn’t interested in the culinary arts. Wei Cheng Yang tells Ah Wei Wei Fen Qing know this already. Wei Cheng Yang dislikes it so much that he wishes to withdraw from school. Ah Wei tries to provide the reason of his girlfriend’s mum also having the same hope for him to continue in his studies in the culinary arts to get him to not think about withdrawing. Wei Cheng Yang also knows this. He, without a doubt, knows regaining his father’s Curry King title is what they want. However, Wei Cheng Yang’s dislike towards the subject is strong. He urges Ah Wei to not become someone like them. Otherwise, he will run away from home.

Ah Wei relates to Wei Cheng Yang’s situation. Wei Fen Qing asks Ah Wei if he let Wei Cheng Yang leave home after hearing Ah Wei didn’t share the same view as her. Ah Wei reveals to her he would let Wei Cheng Yang leave home if it were him. She feels betrayed after this when she thought he was her comrade who was loyal to her.

It’s not that he’s betrayed her with the differing view. It’s that he sees this pressure their putting on Wei Cheng Yang to be pressure that will make him leave home. Ah Wei knows it too well. He’s an example of being pressured against his will.

When Wei Fen Qing first met Ah Wei, he had run away from home from pressures coming from his father. His father had disapproved of his relationship with his girlfriend because he saw Ah Wei’s girlfriend was only with him because he was rich. Ah Wei chose his girlfriend. The outcome unfortunately was that his father was right about his girlfriend. She was only with him because he’s from a wealthy family.

Wei Fen Qing was there when Ah Wei told his girlfriend he’d left home without financial support from his father and had chosen his girlfriend. They stood before her night market stall and she witnessed the bad breakup. She saw the breakup leaving him heartbroken. Immediately after the event, Wei Fen Qing had offered him food and a job at her stall. She had also offered her family’s living room for him to sleep in for a time before arranging a place downstairs for him to live in. When Ah Wei was wallowing in his misery, she told him (more or less) to stop having the breakup with some girl take over his life when he’s young, pull himself together and get past it.

This event appears to have taken place before or around the time when Wei Fen Qing lost her father in a car accident. Ah Wei had also supported Wei Fen Qing in her time of need when her mother’s mental state and physical state was weak where she was desperate to have Wei Cheng Yang study culinary arts and fulfill their father’s wish. He’d also helped her wherever needed so she could fulfill her dream of getting her father’s Curry King title back.

Ah Wei tells Wei Fen Qing she can’t force Wei Cheng Yang to live a life she wants. When Wei Fen Qing argues back that protecting is what she’s doing, Ah Wei argues it could be the opposite. He could pay it with his life. He asks Wei Fen Qing how she will make up for that if this happens. Ah Wei asks Wei Fen Qing if she’s certain this is what her father wants.

We’re gathering Ah Wei’s meaning of ‘paying it with his life’ is ending up in a position that he’s in now where he’s cut off all ties with his father and family and supporting himself with a night market stall. Maybe he also had dreams of studying culinary arts as well, but given up because he needs to work to feed himself.

Everything Ah Wei has said up to this point Wei Fen Qing has come up with something to defend her views regarding Wei Cheng Yang. But with this one, Wei Fen Qing is stumped. She can only walk out, angry at Ah Wei for not acting how a friend would in this matter.

“In the future, if something happens, come find me. Understand? ” Huo Ting En once before had told Wei Fen Qing.

Wei Fen Qing is outside La Mure. She enters La Mure and trudges into the kitchen where Huo Ting En is crouched over the kitchen countertop with cue paper stuck on surfaces all around the room. He’s trying to work out a menu for the new season. Wei Fen Qing announces her presence to Huo Ting En. She calls his name.

Huo Ting En finds a gloomy Wei Fen Qing. He asks her what was wrong, but she only continues her gloomy mood. Huo Ting En knows a way to break her out of it. He asks her to thoroughly clean the entire kitchen, including washing bowls. After he gets her to make a ball of dough by hand, he reveals to Wei Fen Qing his reason for getting her to clean and make dough. He asks if she was tired and whether her mood was better.

Enough time spent making Wei Fen Qing clean and make dough to lighten her mood, Huo Ting En asks Wei Fen Qing to follow him for a drink outside. This is the time where Huo Ting En finds out that Wei Fen Qing’s gloominess was because of Ah Wei and his approval of Wei Cheng Yang leaving home and not because of Wei Cheng Yang and his situation. Huo Ting En seem to see both sides. He sees that Ah Wei is someone who knows how it is to run away from home. He also sees that his family will be the one who will hurt the most.

Huo Ting En is then concerned with the fact that Ah Wei was the one who had put Wei Fen Qing in a gloomy mood and hearing her say Ah Wei is very important to her. This has him ask Wei Fen Qing whether she’d be upset if he supports her brother leaving home like Ah Wei does. He gets the answer he wants to hear from her. She would be upset.

Both return to the kitchen. Whilst Huo Ting En resumes working out what his menu should be, Wei Fen Qing makes curry for a time before she sits and has a bite to eat as she watches Huo Ting En continue to think about his new menu. Both end up falling asleep on the kitchen table and Ah Wei finds the two of them like this.

Ah Wei had gone looking for Wei Fen Qing after their fight, worried because she was heading out so late into the night. He returns back to his motorbike outside and slams a hand to it in frustration. After he sits down on his motorbike and calms down, he finds Meng Ru Xi calling him. “Sis,” he says.

It seems it’s their first face-to-face meeting. Meng Ru Xi asks Ah Wei how long he intends to stay at the night market. Ah Wei tells his sister he’s doing well. He also tells her he now realises how everything was perfect when he was home because everything was done for him. It’s tough working and earning money, but he is proud and finds happiness in accomplishing the things he wants. He doesn’t want to return home yet. He wants to stay because there’s someone he wants to protect. Meng Ru Xi feels Ah Wei would be able to protect this person better if he used his identity. Ah Wei’s response was he has been thinking about this fact a lot, lately. He doesn’t reveal his thoughts on the matter any more than this. The conversation wraps up. Ah Wei and Meng Ru Xi tell each other to look after themselves and hug each other before parting ways.

This meeting becomes misunderstood by Zhen Zhen (Chen Wei Xuan), one of the night market crew. She’d witnessed Ah Wei with Meng Ru Xi from a rooftop and so, she seems to not have heard their conversation when she believes Meng Ru Xi is the ex-girlfriend who had painfully broke his heart. This misunderstanding gets passed onto Wei Fen Qing following Ah Wei deciding to move out of his place downstairs. Wei Fen Qing didn’t stop him leaving. He leaves believing We Fen Qing didn’t want to see him anymore after he spent the night waiting for her to come home.

The misinformation causes Wei Fen Qing to become preoccupied with it and unable to fully concentrate on the cooking she has to do for a dinner event for a hotel’s grand opening of their restaurant. She burns her cooking and knocks bowls over. Huo Ting En guesses its Ah Wei after eliminating two other possibilities. He’s initially not impressed with Wei Fen Qing for not concentrating on work. However, ultimately, he decides it’s best Wei Fen Qing sort out her problems with Ah Wei when she shows she’s too preoccupied to concentrate on making good food when the curry she made tasted bad.

Peng Xiao Bin feels Huo Ting En has made the wrong decision by letting Wei Fen Qing go to Ah Wei. He says to Huo Ting En that letting Wei Fen Qing go sort things out with Ah Wei is giving Wei Fen Qing to Ah Wei. Huo Ting En explains the reason for letting Wei Fen Qing go is because he doesn’t want her to have so many regrets like himself. This mindset doesn’t last, however. Huo Ting En goes and brings her back.

Wei Fen Qing does patch things up with Ah Wei. She’d caught up with him and apologised for not believing he wouldn’t do anything to hurt her when she knows he wouldn’t. Wei Fen Qing had accompanied Ah Wei back home. It’s outside their apartment building that Huo Ting En goes to bring Wei Fen Qing back to the restaurant.

It’s a battle between Huo Ting En and Ah Wei to see who Wei Fen Qing goes with. Ah Wei tells Wei Fen Qing to ignore Huo Ting En and head up. Ah Wei scurries her into the entrance with a hand. Huo Ting En’s face was long for a brief moment when it looked like Wei Fen Qing was going to listen to Ah Wei. However, Wei Fen Qing then turns and walks to Huo Ting En. She tells him she will head back to work. She needs to learn to make Curry Lobster in seven days. Every minute and every second is important.

After work, Wei Fen Qing realises she needs to retrieve her motorcycle. However, she realises she doesn’t have the keys with her. Huo Ting En has them. He had grabbed them as he escorted Wei Fen Qing to his car. Wei Fen Qing then spots her motorcycle in the distance. She’s surprised how it got there. Huo Ting En had, in the annoying rain, retrieved it and rode it back to La Mure for her.

The episode ends with Wei Fen Qing already in bed. She sends a video message of goodnight in response to Ah Wei’s message. She then finds a video recording of Huo Ting En on her phone. It’s one taken during that night of drunkenness after the wine party when the screen shows Huo Ting En wearing her head accessory. “Wei Fen Qing, I love you,” she hears.
