“Are you used to leaning in so closely when you speak to others?” Zhong Yu Tang says to Ji Wen Kai. The words snap Ji Wen Kai from his trance. He moves away and apologises: “I wasn’t aware this time.” The explanation he gives seems to sound awkward and embarrassing to his ears when he contorts his face. Zhong Yu Tang, however, only shows a bit of awkwardness. Ji Wen Kai continues in his embarrassed state as Zhong Yu Tang announces her leave and thanks him for the folder of information he prepared for her. When Zhong Yu Tang notices and makes a comment on the toy block castle representing Sale Team 3 on display in the room, Ji Wen Kai manages only a quick acknowledgement of it. “What am I saying? ‘I wasn’t aware this time?'” he says, scolding himself after Zhong Yu Tang was completely out of the room.
Ji Wen Kai’s unusual response has Zhong Yu Tang wonder what he meant by ‘this time’. “What about the previous ones, then?” she asks herself as she waits for the elevator to reach her floor. Past moments of Ji Wen Kai leaning into her and speaking to her at close proximity flash through her mind. She shakes them out of her mind and tells herself off for thinking about such useless things.
Zhong Yu Tang goes to look at the folder Ji Wen Kai prepared for her. She flips through the pages and reads information on the beneficial properties of egg shell membrane. Some further flipping brings her to a page featuring Shinway Biotechnology. “Shinway?” Zhong Yu Tang says before she gives a call to Wang Zi Yu. She wishes to meet up for an afternoon meal. Wang Zi Yu tells Zhong Yu Tang he’s busy in the afternoon, but can meet up in the evening for a meal.
They meet at a restaurant. Zhong Yu Tang apologises to Wang Zi Yu for getting him to come out to have a meal with her when he was so busy. But Wang Zi Yu finds no trouble in coming out to have a meal with her at all. “Didn’t I say it before? As long as you have something you need, I will be there to help,” he says. These words bring Zhong Yu Tang to telling Wang Zi Yu she will head straight to the point: what had he wanted to work on with Sales Team 3 when he came to their office that last time? Zhong Yu Tang asks Wang Zi Yu. It was that he wanted to develop a new high quality beauty care product capable of integrating with the egg shell essence Shinway Biotechnologies currently supplies to Tianxi Group.
This response seems to be one Zhong Yu Tang had hoped for. She nods to Wang Zi Yu’s explanation with a pleased smile. “What if you put the egg shell essence into Mei Mei?” Zhong Yu Tang asks Wang Zi Yu. When Wang Zi Yu shows uncertainty in the idea, Zhong Yu Tang explains to him that the egg shell essence goes well with the gentle and natural characteristics of Mei Mei with the egg shell essence having the ability to help promote skin tolerance. Wang Zi Yu understands and sees the idea feasible. He immediately agrees to head back to the company and begin the research for the idea. But Zhong Yu Tang only wants him to introduce some of his company’s stores to her and allow her to understand them. Wang Zi Yu is willing—however, he is worried her CEO may not agree to this arrangement when her CEO had disagreed to Sales Team 3 working with him when he previously presented the idea to him. Zhong Yu Tang feels there won’t be a problem. So long as there’s substance, he will agree.
With the discussion on the possible integration of Shinway and Tianxi’s products thoroughly discussed and at a positive end, somewhat coming across as impatient, Wang Zi Yu asks Zhong Yu Tang if they could now start ordering their meals. Of course, Zhong Yu Tang says then apologises for her rudeness for busily talking about work and not allowing him to order meals.
Ji Wen Kai enters into the restaurant with Miao Ai Sha. A waiter takes him and Miao Ai Sha to a table adjacent to the one Zhong Yu Tang and Wang Zi Yu sits at. However, Ji Wen Kai only notices them when Wang Zi Yu calls for the waiter. Ji Wen Kai is surprised—most probably due to finding that the ‘something that came up’ for Zhong Yu Tang was this. Earlier in the day, Zhong Yu Tang had sent him a message saying she couldn’t go over to his place to do the housecleaning because something came up.
“What a coincidence,” Ji Wen Kai says to them. “We really do have a lot luck of bumping into each other,” Wang Zi Yu responds before he turns to Miao Ai Sha who stands behind Ji Wen Kai. “It’s been a while,” he says to her. Miao Ai Sha politely bows her head and returns the greeting in kind.
After the greetings, Ji Wen Kai lets the evening resume. He tells Miao Ai Sha to take their seats—first helping her into her seat then, a flick to the side towards Zhong Yu Tang and Wang Zi Yu’s direction—a quick glance to his peripheral—before he seats himself at his table with Miao Ai Sha.
The evening is filled with Ji Wen Kai looking over at Zhong Yu Tang with Wang Zi Yu at her table and Zhong Yu Tang looking over at Ji Wen Kai with Miao Ai Sha at his table. They find each other’s company in tune with them: Wang Zi Yu orders the same meal as Zhong Yu Tang of rice omelette with double egg and double cheese. Meanwhile, Miao Ai Sha orders for both herself and Ji Wen Kai—two gyudons, but one without egg. And they watch each other in couple-like interactions with their company: Ji Wen Kai sees Zhong Yu Tang receive Wang Zi Yu’s help with keeping her locks of hair from being stained by the food she’s eating; and Zhong Yu Tang sees Ji Wen Kai help Miao Ai Sha put back on the bracelet she hears Ji Wen Kai indicate was a gift from him. It slid off Miao Ai Sha’s wrist when Miao Ai Sha went to swap her soup for the steamed egg Ji Wen Kai didn’t want to eat.
The plan to renew Mei Mei begins. Zhong Yu Tang catches her colleagues up on the details of Shinway Biotechnologies agreeing to work on transforming Mei Mei into a new product with combining their Mei Mei soap with Shinway Biotechnologies’ egg shell essence product. Their task is to produce a proposal to convince Ji Wen Kai to allow it to proceed. Zhong Yu Tang and her team work well to complete the proposal by the end of the day. However, she still needs to work through the night to prepare for the presentation of the proposal the next day as well as make amends to the proposal when Wang Zi Yu calls her and informs he has updated data for her to put into the proposal.
A plan to work throughout the night in the office and taking a trip to the convenience store to purchase a quick dinner meal, she bumps into Miao Ai Sha. Zhong Yu Tang is surprised to see Miao Ai Sha in a very comfortable attire of tracksuit and hair bundled up in a pony tail with black thick-rimmed glasses. She is also surprised to find her reaching out for the same bowl of instant noodles that she went to grab. Zhong Yu Tang is surprised Miao Ai Sha ate such convenient foods. Miao Ai Sha tells Zhong Yu Tang a little about her background after they head to the café lounge a level above upon Miao Ai Sha’s suggestion for them to eat together. The instant noodles that she eats is that she doesn’t really have a family; a person who doesn’t live with her mother, she eats by herself and doesn’t like to waste time on cooking. She conveniently eats like this because of those reasons. It’s a secret about her that no one knows, she tells Zhong Yu Tang. You are the first one in the company to know about this side of me, Miao Ai Sha says to Zhong Yu Tang. It’s a secret she doesn’t want leaked out. Zhong Yu Tang corrects Miao Ai Sha: it’s a secret that they both have and they are both exchanging it with each other.
Their conversation moves onto Ji Wen Kai after the bracelet Ji Wen Kai gifted Miao Ai Sha for her birthday slides off her wrist after Miao Ai Sha agrees with Zhong Yu Tang to speak quieter so to prevent others from hearing about their secret. Miao Ai Sha had followed Zhong Yu Tang in keeping it down with a finger to her lips and saw the bracelet fall to the table. The talk about Ji Wen Kai is brief when Wang Zi Yu’s message to Zhong Yu Tang’s phone informing her he has sent the file with the updated information he said he will send to her reminds Zhong Yu Tang she needs to get back to the office to work. It’s a conversation that sees Miao Ai Sha showing Zhong Yu Tang how special Ji Wen Kai is to her when she indicates that the bracelet is the only jewellery she will wear because normally she doesn’t like wearing such things. The admission has Zhong Yu Tang momentarily struggle with how to respond before giving a view of Ji Wen Kai’s gesture that appear to sting the heart to a degree: Ji Wen Kai must think highly of you to give you such a beautiful gift. Miao Ai Sha doesn’t provide any insight to her thoughts on this. She simply goes to ask Zhong Yu Tang whether she still finds Ji Wen Kai hard to get along with. Zhong Yu Tang shakes her head. The fussy attitude that she finds Ji Wen Kai has towards her and Sales Team 3, she sees it as positive and purposeful. She realises it has helped her and Sales Team 3 become motivated and progressing forward.
The time to present the proposal to Ji Wen Kai arrives. Zhong Yu Tang and Meng He present on behalf of Sales Team 3. Meng He is nervous. It’s been so long since she’s presented, Meng He explains. But Zhong Yu Tang tells Meng He to be confident. They will do fine. Ji Wen Kai enters. Zhong Yu Tang and Meng He greet him then goes to stand before Ji Wen Kai who takes a seat in the front middle seat in the large presentation room. Zhong Yu Tang hands Ji Wen Kai the proposal to read. He holds onto it for a bit before he slides it to the side. Zhong Yu Tang sees it as him being difficult again. She uses the tone she often uses with him outside of work and addresses him by his name. She realises very soon they are at work and changes to addressing him by his title, but her tone and question is not much better. Meng He stops Zhong Yu Tang. Politely and respectfully, Meng He asks Ji Wen Kai what the problem was that he isn’t reading the proposal.
It’s not that he’s not reading it. Sliding the proposal a seat over seems to be because he’s placing it there for a guest that is expected to arrive and is the one to judge their presentation. That guest is Wang Zi Yu. Miao Ai Sha announces his arrival, surprising Zhong Yu Tang. “Why are you here?” Zhong Yu Tang asks Wang Zi Yu after he makes his way to stand alongside Ji Wen Kai. Ji Wen Kai responds to her question: Signing contracts isn’t simply done over a meal. You must convince Wang Zi Yu so he is able to convince those others in his company. Meng He finds that, with the project being a collaboration between both Tianxi and Shinway, someone from Shinway coming in to judge their presentation is understandable and necessary. However, she is curious why the person judging them was not a more relevant person—the head of development or someone higher up in position. It will also make the presentation feel more formal, she explains. Wang Zi Yu is someone who is making it formal because he is someone very important. Miao Ai Sha explains to Meng He: “A lot of company presidents let their successor become the company’s executive secretary as training for the future. Wang Zi Yu is the executive secretary of Shinway and is also Chairman Wang’s son. That is to say, he is the future successor of Shinway Biotechnologies.”
After being surprised by the identity of their guest, it’s presentation time for Zhong Yu Tang and Meng He. The presentation goes through successfully and Wang Zi Yu finds no fault in it. It is a sound and non-boastful proposal that makes him confident the collaboration between Shinway and Tianxi will result in an excellent product.
The news of a successful agreement for Mei Mei and Shinway’s egg shell essence coming together into one product is not taken well by Manager Jia (Paul Hsu) of Sales Team 1. He confronts Sales Team 3 about using the ingredient that is used in their egg shell revitalising veil beauty care product. Meng He argues that Sales Team 1 and Sales Team 3 are not in competition with each other; they all work to make profits for their company, Tianxi. But Manager Jia, again, does not see it that way. Sales Team 3 uses the egg shell essence that is a similar one that help differentiate Sales Team 1’s beauty care product from others. He demands them to terminate the contract with Shinway. Zhong Yu Tang tries her hand at reasoning with Manager Jia: she can see he’s worried about losing market share, but his team’s product and Mei Mei have different target audiences. Meng He goes to adds that the proposal has already been approved and cannot simply be terminated.
In Manager Jia’s determination, he takes it up with their CEO—with Ji Wen Kai. His argument is that using the egg shell essence in an inferior product such as Mei Mei, it will devalue the worth of the egg shell membrane’s worth that their high-end consumers specifically look for in their high-end product. The egg shell essence Mei Mei uses is its new formula. The amount of the egg shell ingredient it uses isn’t the same as the amount used in their egg shell revitalising veil product, Zhong Yu Tang argues. Furthermore, if Mei Mei gathers favourable reviews, it’s a bonus for the egg shell membrane when there will be more people being introduced to the egg shell essence.
Manager Jia explodes. He gets up from his seated position opposite Zhong Yu Tang (and next to Ji Wen Kai who has been sitting quietly and listening to the debate going on between his two subordinates), slams his palms on the table and exclaims Zhong Yu Tang to lack understanding of the situation. “Sales Team 1 brings in 300 million at the very least in one month. If Mei Mei does continue selling, it reaches not more than a few million in a month.” Manager Jia goes on to argue that company profits will be harmed when consumers of their product drops off because of the egg shell ingredient being used in Mei Mei. He then turns to Ji Wen Kai and requests for the contract between Shinway and Mei Mei to be terminated.
Ji Wen Kai tells Manager Jia he trusts the work he does and knows that Sales Team 1 is the backbone of the company. However, the fury he displays for Sales Team 3 using a similar ingredient to one in their product has Ji Wen Kai wonder if he and Sales Team 1 lack the skill to sell the product without a valuable ingredient in it. Manager Jia’s response is a rejection of Ji Wen Kai’s argument. When Ji Wen Kai defines an elite group of salespeople to be one that is able to sell any product no matter what the product is and says he will allow the collaboration between Mei Mei and Shinway to continue, Manager Jia uses words that comes across as a threat to Ji Wen Kai. “I’ve already defined the stakes extremely clearly. If you’re making this decision because you favour Sales Team 3, as a person who’s in charge, I will not let my subordinates suffer. Sales Team 1 are elites of elites. We’ll do well wherever we go. We don’t have to remain in Tianxi.” Ji Wen Kai calls Manager Jia out on his words being a threat. Manager Jia attempts a respectful clarification of his meaning: things that are a hindrance should be rid of. Ji Wen Kai takes it on board. He asks Manager Jia what results Sales Team 3 needs to achieve so they are seen as a valuable unit. “At least 30 million in one month. If they don’t reach it, the entire group gets cut.” Ji Wen Kai asks Manager Jia what the outcome will be if it’s achieved. “Then they won’t be called the processing centre for waste wood.” Zhong Yu Tang defends her team: they have skill; they managed to get the contract with Yours. Simply a fluke, Manager Jia more or less responds with before he gives the team some respect by putting their team’s first half-year bonuses on the line if Sales Team 3 dare to accept the challenge. Some moments of thinking, Zhong Yu Tang accepts the challenge for Sales Team 3.
Zhong Yu Tang’s colleagues are at first concerned with the challenge that Zhong Yu Tang informs them they now are taking part in. But very soon, a discussion of how they would advertise Mei Mei brings them to being upbeat and getting onto brainstorming for a slogan for the new Mei Mei. The slogan for Mei Mei comes to be: “Change for the better.”
The working day ends positively for Zhong Yu Tang. She has an appointment at Ji Wen Kai’s place to do the housecleaning she had rescheduled from the housecleaning she hadn’t been able to do the previous night due to needing to meet up with Wang Zi Yu. On her way, she comes across the store that brings about high school memories of her enjoying squid pieces as Ji Wen Kai complained about drawing out yet another packet of squid pieces. The item he wanted to draw out was a yellow racing car that couldn’t be bought. It recalled memories of her returning back to the store by herself and spending almost every cent of her lunch money drawing out squid, but drew out the yellow racing car Ji Wen Kai had wanted on her last coin.
Zhong Yu Tang sees a red racing car on display. She calls the store owner out and asks how much it is. The store owner firstly jokes: the car is 200 thousand dollars (~US$6000); then tells her she can only obtain it by drawing it out. Zhong Yu Tang tells the store owner she will play. The store owner finds Zhong Yu Tang drawing out packets of squid pieces, one after the other, interesting. He comments how interesting it is that she’s constantly drawing out packets of squid pieces that a handsome young man had wanted to draw out the other night. He jokes they should switch places. The handsome young man the store owner refers to is Ji Wen Kai. Zhong Yu Tang simply tells the store owner that she will use her own abilities and continues to draw.
Zhong Yu Tang does eventually draw out the red racing car as we find out later when Ji Wen Kai’s friend, Cai Sheng Ren (Stanley Mei), finds it in one of the brown paper bags she brings over to Ji Wen Kai’s place and placed on the table.
(Ji Wen Kai wasn’t home when Zhong Yu Tang arrived. Cai Sheng Ren—who comes looking for Ji Wen Kai—lets Zhong Yu Tang in with the set of keys he had to Ji Wen Kai’s place. Cai Sheng Ren is the friend who was with Ji Wen Kai that morning Ji Wen Kai appeared outside her house with a megaphone.)
Before finding the red racing car, Cai Sheng Ren also found the many packets of squid pieces that he found particularly ancient—ancient enough to have been bought from a history museum. Zhong Yu Tang had asked him if he was the one who liked them after recalling the time she was in Ji Wen Kai’s car and he said his friend, Cai Sheng Ren, left them in the glove compartment. No, I don’t, Cai Sheng Ren answered. I wouldn’t accept them even if it was for free! This response towards the squid pieces, recalling the store owner mentioning about a handsome young man constantly drawing out squid pieces, catching Ji Wen Kai at the table stuffing squid pieces without her knowledge one dinner time, and remembering toys looking like those she found in the store she had just come from falling on her head that time she opened one of the kitchen cupboards, Zhong Yu Tang realised the squid packets were won by Ji Wen Kai.
Cai Sheng Ren is curious why she and Ji Wen Kai are acting like they hate each other after Zhong Yu Tang explained the red racing car was a gift for Ji Wen Kai because Cai Sheng Ren looked at it with excitement—a gift she says was accidentally won rather than specifically drawn out to gift to Ji Wen Kai. Zhong Yu Tang responds to Cai Sheng Ren’s comment about them feeling like they hate each other when in they had been schoolmates: “Back in our high school days, it was pretty good. But afterwards, I may have done something wrong.”
We come to a flashback scene at an indoor pool area. Ji Wen Kai is pushed and shoved by the group leader who had wanted a dance with Zhong Yu Tang at the high school dance (seen in Episode 7). His possé are present and supporting their leader. Zhong Yu Tang stands in the background, unseen and concerned. She thinks about calling over the disciplinary teacher, but worries Ji Wen Kai may already be beaten up by the time she returns with the disciplinary teacher. She intervenes. To save Ji Wen Kai, she makes up a story of the teacher wishing for Ji Wen Kai to report to him this lunchtime. Ji Wen Kai doesn’t understand her actions. He urges Zhong Yu Tang to realise the situation that was taking place before them. Zhong Yu Tang speaks to Ji Wen Kai as a friend. She whispers in his ear: she sees it clearly. She then uses an authoritative voice—one of a class leader: “Do you not understand? You are the soldier. I am the general. If I tell you to go, you go!” When Ji Wen Kai continues to disobey, Zhong Yu Tang pushes him with force and tells him to go. Ji Wen Kai is shocked by the forcefulness; and reluctantly, Ji Wen Kai leaves.
We move to the familiar scene in the faculty office. Ji Wen Kai has bruises on his face and messy clothes. He stands with Zhong Yu Tang next to him and a teacher before him scolding him. Zhong Yu Tang says Ji Wen Kai isn’t someone she will be friends with after the teacher expresses concern of a delinquent like Ji Wen Kai may hinder Zhong Yu Tang—someone who is gifted and has a bright future. “See? Even Zhong Yu Tang doesn’t want to be your friend,” the teacher says to Ji Wen Kai. The teacher reiterating what he already heard from Zhong Yu Tang’s mouth, Ji Wen Kai is mad—”Teacher: haven’t you said enough, already?” He then walks off, ignoring the teacher’s shout of an instruction for him to complete a 1200-word letter of repentance in three days.
We come back to present time and hear Zhong Yu Tang reveal to Cai Sheng Ren her belief of the fight Ji Wen Kai was disciplined for was in response to a provocation from those classmates who bothered her at the high school dance. She also reveals that she and Ji Wen Kai drifted apart from that day onwards and consequently lost contact with each other when he suddenly relocated and only came into contact again when Ji Wen Kai appeared before her as the new CEO of Tianxi.
After a few more exchanges of words on the topic of Ji Wen Kai—of Zhong Yu Tang expressing how she’s happy to see Ji Wen Kai becoming the person she had hoped he would become back then, Zhong Yu Tang tells Cai Sheng Ren she will begin cleaning. However, Cai Sheng Ren feels he needs to use this opportunity that presented itself to him to help build the bridge for Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang. This comes after an earlier scene where Ji Wen Kai is with Cai Sheng Ren at a bar and the topic of conversation was Ji Wen Kai confused about the matter of Zhong Yu Tang rescheduling the housecleaning to go have dinner with Wang Zi Yu at the restaurant he and Miao Ai Sha dined in. That conversation had made Cai Sheng Ren feel Ji Wen Kai was a Refresh Man in love.
The method Cai Sheng Ren uses is: get Zhong Yu Tang intoxicated. He seems to know her situation at work and uses this as a way to lure her into his plan. He provides advice on how to succeed in her work as a salesperson: she needs to know how to socialise to bring in contracts. This is through alcohol tolerance. Cai Sheng Ren’s plan is set in motion after Zhong Yu Tang says she is not a strong drinker and he tells her there’s a method he has that can train her to have a higher level of tolerance towards alcohol: tongue twisters. Tongue twisters will keep the left brain working, allow the smaller part to decipher things and prevent you from getting drunk.
Cai Sheng Ren begins the training. Ten or so glasses of alcohol are set on the table. Cai Sheng Ren takes the first glass and demonstrates: he drinks then utters a tongue twister. He allows Zhong Yu Tang to begin. The first glass, she does well in the tongue twister. She feels it’s working. But by the time there is only a few glasses left, she struggles with the tongue twister and it becomes a jumble. Come the final glass, Zhong Yu Tang is very drunk. She’s about to drink the final glass, but Ji Wen Kai comes in, takes the glass away and asks Cai Sheng Ren what he was doing.
“You’ve returned back just in time. Today, I’m not only Sheng Ren. I’m also a matchmaker. I’ve already set the situation up for you,” Cai Sheng Ren says, pleased with what he’s done and leaves Ji Wen Kai to handle Zhong Yu Tang.
Ji Wen Kai tries to get a hold of a drunk Zhong Yu Tang who attempt to speak the tongue twister; who tells him she’s not drunk and that she can overcome clients now that she has overcome alcohol; who thinks he allowed her to get near Wang Zi Yu because he knows she has no connections and made her fall into the trap with that person in Sales Team 1 to catch that vulnerable point of hers. Annoyance with Ji Wen Kai increase and she becomes overly-emotional to the point of being unsteady from a rock of her heel. Ji Wen Kai’s attempts to keep her steady gains him a push and a shove. “I’m okay! I’m okay,” Zhong Yu Tang says before she points her index finger at Ji Wen Kai’s chest repeatedly and tells him she won’t be defeated by him. She shoves him again as she tells him Sales Team 3 isn’t weak.
The push is strong. Ji Wen Kai loses balance. He pulls Zhong Yu Tang down onto the sofa behind him. Both remain in the position for some moments, lost in the moment—before, with an angry expression, Zhong Yu Tang snaps herself up and off of Ji Wen Kai. Ji Wen Kai simply follows suit and gets up. However, not even up, he gets pushed back down onto the sofa he lies on. “You—!” Ji Wen Kai says with a hint of annoyance. Zhong Yu Tang ignores his annoyance. “What did you say?—I’m the soldier? You are the general? The soldier has to listen to the general?” She grabs Ji Wen Kai’s cheeks with a hand. “But you don’t understand. A soldier can eat up a general. Do you believe I can eat you up?” Ji Wen Kai speaks with his cheeks still restrained by a hand of Zhong Yu Tang: “And so? You want to eat me up.” Zhong Yu Tang thinks for a moment on what she seems to hear as a challenge. With eyes that appear determined, she descends down onto him.
Thoughts
Ooh, another cliffhanger with Zhong Yu Tang and Ji Wen Kai being at extremely close proximity—even closer than they were in the previous episode’s cliffhanger!
The opening scene coming off from the previous episode’s cliffhanger was pretty good—although, Zhong Yu Tang saying— “Are you used to leaning in so closely when you speak to others?” it came across as coming from out of nowhere to us. We thought it was strange Zhong Yu Tang would say that in order to get Ji Wen Kai to back away. But, we finally got why she said it when Zhong Yu Tang recalled all the times Ji Wen Kai leaned in closely as he spoke—those scenes in the first few episodes of the series that we found to be a bit like ‘whoa’.
Ji Wen Kai’s dialogue in that opening scene— “I wasn’t careful this time” went by us also. It seems like it was also to do with the many times he leaned into Zhong Yu Tang as he spoke; and maybe the point for the line was to get across to us that this time Ji Wen Kai’s actions were accidental like he said it was and stamp those others to be on purpose which then shows how out of it he was here. Nevertheless, we didn’t get that dialogue at all when we were watching. That dialogue made it feel like Ji Wen Kai thinks about wanting to lean into Zhong Yu Tang as he speaks all the time—which we wouldn’t think he does… The dialogue is odd even if the effect was to have Ji Wen Kai speak gibberish because he was so out of it. Don’t know. But, we were definitely wondering why Ji Wen Kai said that when he did.
We do like how the opening scene went, though. We like how Ji Wen Kai was lost for a good response. It was fun watching him being so out of it after he came across as being normal and not one bit affected by Zhong Yu Tang’s presence as she talked to him back at the desk. Then, he’s saying weird things and acts like how Zhong Yu Tang was with internally scolding himself for such awkward words coming out of his mouth. Fun. Enjoyed it.
The cliffhanger for this episode, the scene leading up to it with those scenes of Zhong Yu Tang—fun! The ‘eat you up’ line worked well for what Zhong Yu Tang was saying how she won’t let him defeat her and she will anniliate him. Though we used ‘eat you up’ in the recap, annihilate is probably the more correct translation of the word. ‘Eat you up’ is the literal translation for what Zhong Yu Tang says, but it works well for a scene that has Zhong Yu Tang looking like she’s going to eat him up! So, ‘eat you up’ it is. Awesome!
It looks like the love rivals are coming in. They’re doing the quad thing with Ji Wen Kai with his partner and Zhong Yu Tang with hers. We still don’t really know what’s coming for the two love rivals and how they’ll affect Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang’s relationship; but, Ji Wen Kai and Miao Sha as a pair and Zhong Yu Tang and Wang Zi Yu as a pair has developed really well and we are finding them interesting. The new development of a sort of a friendship between Zhong Yu Tang and Miao Ai Sha—we’re wondering what it means for the love triangle, though.
It was so interesting to see a bit more of the story behind that flashback scene of Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang in the faculty office. We now know that it was another example showing Zhong Yu Tang was looking out for Ji Wen Kai. We get to hear that her words of never being friends with someone like Ji Wen Kai was words to make sure Ji Wen Kai didn’t get into deeper trouble. There was something new surrounding this plot in the story. It was Zhong Yu Tang revealing that Ji Wen Kai relocated some time after that incident. Wonder what the story is behind that and if there will be development on it.
Quite a lot of interesting things in those flashback scenes. Each flashback are like pieces of a puzzle that form a very interesting story about Ji Wen Kai and Zhong Yu Tang’s relationship in the past. In the earlier episodes of the series, these inserts showing the past, we had been either indifferent towards them or wished they didn’t come in at all; but from last week’s episode, we find ourselves finding them quite interesting. We think they now work very nicely with the plot in the present time. They’re building a very interesting sub-story.
That fact of Wang Zi Yu being the heir of Shinway Biotechnologies—it was surprising to see Zhong Yu Tang and Meng He surprised by the fact. We thought that fact was revealed in the last episode. We remember Jiang Hui Yin looking him up on the phone and saying he was the heir of Shinway Biotechnologies. Zhong Yu Tang could possibly have been out of ears range when she was talking to Wang Zi Yu, so that’s fine. But, we thought Meng He was in the group when Jiang Hui Yin looked Wang Zi Yu’s profile up. So, she shouldn’t have been shocked. Oh well. Jumped the gun maybe. We did know about this fact about Wang Zi Yu beforehand. We read Wang Zi Yu’s character profile on Chinese Wikipedia when he first appeared. Guess we were just impatient and thought the characters were finally clued in on the fact. Haha! Oops. :oP :oP.
We now see that the competition between Sales Team 1 and Sales Team 3 has the purpose of being another driving force for Zhong Yu Tang and Sales Team 3 to do better. It’s not a bad driving force for the main plot. Still can’t tell what sort of excitement it can bring, but at least now we’re seeing a heading for the main plot.
Did anyone get confused with the talk about egg shell membrane and egg shell essence or whatever it is? We couldn’t understand the difference. We think the egg shell revitalising veil that Sales Team 1 sells uses egg shell membrane and Sales Team 3’s Mei Mei uses the egg shell essence. It was so confusing during that scene between Manager Jia and Zhong Yu Tang! Maybe it’s just better to generalise it and refer to it as simply an egg shell ingredient. :oP :oP.
Really, really good episode. Enjoyed it a lot. Will be interested in what the cliffhanger brings this time! :oD :oD.
