Canterbury, New Zealand was struck with a Magnitude 7.1 earthquake on 4 September 2010. It was 10km deep, 40km from one of New Zealand’s most populated city, Christchurch. This main shock set forth a series of aftershocks. The most destructive one struck six months later on 22 February 2011 with a Magnitude 6.3 aftershock. It took lives and caused widespread damage, bringing down buildings and closed off public access to roads.
This is a short video on the state of central Christchurch after it was struck by the thousands of earth tremors. We visit the heart of the city with our digital still camera with video function, capturing some of the progress over a year after the February 2011 aftershock.
