100 Days My Prince Episode 8 Recap<\/h2>\n

Both Won Deuk and Hong Shim are safe. Seok Ha\u2019s assassination attempt fails as Hong Shim\u2019s distant gaze alerts Won Deuk to spot the arrow behind and save it from hitting him or Hong Shim. Thinking the attack is another one of Park Sun Do\u2019s attempts to pay back a grudge with more thugs, Won Deuk thinks to get up and lure the thugs away from Hong Shim, but Hong Shim holds him back, wanting him to stay with her and wait it out.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk uses this chance to rid Hong Shim\u2019s straw shoes and give her the pair of pink embroidered shoes he bought and was about to give her before they were shot at. Hong Shim doesn\u2019t make a move to wear them and had to be encouraged. It wasn\u2019t that she didn\u2019t like them, but on her mind is the knowledge that Won Deuk isn\u2019t actually Won Deuk. Her father had finally told her the whole truth about wanting to saving her from being beaten to death or becoming a concubine, and so, had this stranger he saved from the brink of death act as Won Deuk, her fianc\u00e9. <\/p>\n

Hong Shim met Won Deuk at the barley fields with the intention of confessing this to Won Deuk; however, she was interrupted by Won Deuk. He told her he knew what she wanted to tell him, that she was not a villager but someone from a noble family. So, the conversation changes to Hong Shim denying her real identity. She makes up excuses to explain his discovery away, but it doesn\u2019t convince Won Deuk. It doesn\u2019t worry him, though. He tells her he won\u2019t press her about it since she seems to not want to say anything about it.<\/p>\n

The two return to the pub where Hong Shim\u2019s father is anxious to know whether Hong Shim\u2019s gone and told Won Deuk the truth. He\u2019s relieved to find out Hong Shim hasn\u2019t, but learns that Hong Shim hasn\u2019t given up on letting Won Deuk know the truth because it just isn\u2019t right. His father suggests allowing his memory to return naturally in an attempt to sway her from not telling, but Hong Shim questions whether his memory can return naturally when they\u2019re deceiving and lying to him. Hong Shim seems to think that it won\u2019t, and so, sets out to try help Won Deuk remember.<\/p>\n

Their talk about rainbow rice cakes, which Hong Shim\u2019s friend Kkyeut Nyeo (Lee Min Ji) brings by begins Hong Shim\u2019s goal of encouraging Won Deuk to remember. His curiosity about the naming of the rice cakes and not having seen or eating one has Hong Shim try to get him to remember where he\u2019s from by asking about what foods he likes eating. He mentions liking meat pancakes, which has Hong Shim see if it would jog his memory about a place he had them in order to help discover where he might be from. She doesn\u2019t learn this information, as he names the time Gu Dol had him eating some in the village (Episode 5<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Won Deuk and Hong Shim move back to their home after Won Deuk uses his rediscovered archery skills to send Park Sun Do cowering. Aiming the arrow with precision at a beam right between the nobleman and his visitors, Won Deuk sends a letter using the Royal Inspector\u2019s name warning the nobleman he\u2019s being watched.<\/p>\n

Back home, the two are greeted with their friends working on cleaning up and repairing their house. Ma Chil drops by, appearing to demand payment of money or he\u2019ll take Hong Shim away to be sold as a slave. It\u2019s all an act to lure Won Deuk away so they can throw him a surprise birthday party.<\/p>\n

According to the records the magistrate\u2019s assistant Park Bok Eun (Lee Joon Huk) found whilst cleaning up the magistrate\u2019s office, it\u2019s Won Deuk\u2019s birthday. As Won Deuk isn\u2019t actually Won Deuk, not Hong Shim, her father or Won Deuk know it\u2019s Won Deuk\u2019s birthday. So, all three are fooled into believing Won Deuk had accidentally killed Ma Chil when he punched him in the gut to stop Ma Chil from hitting Hong Shim after she bit his arm to get the loan shark to release her in order to go to her father who had been pushed to the floor.<\/p>\n

Park Bok Eun takes Won Deuk away to where Won Deuk thinks is the magistrate’s office only for Park Bok Eun to accept an invitation from a restaurant owner to go eat noodles. It\u2019s where the birthday party is and where Ma Chil is seen alive and well. <\/p>\n

What a shocking way to throw a surprise birthday party. Hong Shim was so scared Won Deuk had really killed someone she left to the kitchen and cried. More and more Hong Shim\u2019s caring about Won Deuk and it makes him smile a little when he goes to reassure her that he\u2019d be with her forever and won\u2019t leave her because he\u2019s her husband.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk\u2019s birthday is spent merrily with the villagers who have him try toning down his speech before he has Hong Shim call him \u201cmy dear husband\u201d. Since she didn\u2019t get him a birthday gift, this was Won Deuk\u2019s request for a make-up present. Won Deuk also finds himself wanting to kiss Hong Shim and have her sleep with him at the end of the night, but he gets stopped by his own words when they first got married: she mustn\u2019t touch him until he regains his memory.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk\u2019s been getting some pressure from Gu Dol for not having spent the night with Hong Shim. It\u2019s no wonder the skies haven\u2019t blessed them with rain, Gu Dol says. Hong Shim received a push along from Kkyeut Nyeo, too, but her reason for doing so is because Kkyeut Nyeo can see they both like each other. But with Won Deuk not remembering who he is, Hong Shim couldn\u2019t possibly let anything happen even if she wanted it (which she seems to want as she is heard wondering to herself about what it would\u2019ve been like if she was really Hong Shim and he was really Won Deuk.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk seems really wanting his relationship with Hong Shim to progress, so trying Gu Dol\u2019s idea, he tries to convince Hong Shim his memory has truly returned by using common things a guy and a girl would do as a couple, like going to the marketplace and buying a hair ribbon for Hong Shim before he makes up the most likely scenario that would have them go to the watermill where they spent the night together: they headed off to where Hong Shim swung on a swing, after which it rained which lead them to take shelter in the watermill where they spent the night together. <\/p>\n

It was never going to convince Hong Shim since none of the above ever happened. It couldn\u2019t have since the two never met each other as adults. For the time being, Hong Shim humours him. When time comes to make their way home, Hong Shim has Won Deuk on a job across the river to Village across river, where Won Deuk finds out just how impossible the events the above actually are, because he discovers that he isn\u2019t Won Deuk.<\/p>\n

Over in the palace, Jung Jae Yoon discovers Vice premier might be responsible for the Crown Prince\u2019s assassination after reading the diary entries the Crown Prince wrote just before leaving to attend the rain ritual. In what looks like a plan to uncover the truth, he tries to gain the trust of the Vice Premier by allowing him see the Crown Prince\u2019s secret letter which was originally only for Jung Jae Yoon\u2019s eyes. This gets Jung Jae Yoon promoted to be the magistrate of Songjoo Village, which is more a post to test Jung Jae Yoon\u2019s loyalties to the Vice Premier it seems.<\/p>\n

As if the Vice Premier is protecting himself from future problems, he forces the King to stamp his seal on a blank scroll. In exchange, he\u2019ll get everyone to stop calling for the deposition of the Queen and heir Prince Seo Won. The Vice Premier assures he doesn’t want the throne, saying that if he did, he would\u2019ve taken it 10 years ago. What he wants is the power to decide what he wants when he wants.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Seok Ha makes the decision to end his hunt for the Crown Prince following the discovery that his sister is married to him. In order to make it look like he\u2019s completed his mission, he brings a severed hand to pass off as the Crown Prince\u2019s and tells him that he\u2019s buried the body at a valley in the mountain.<\/p>\n

From the looks of things, Seok Ha\u2019s decided that this is the best way to handle the situation which otherwise would cause Hong Shim to learn that not only is he the Crown Prince, someone who she shouldn\u2019t be married to and that he\u2019s an assassin ordered to the Crown Prince. This plan would allow him to leave the clutches of the Vice Premier and go get his sister from Songjoo Village as he had promised to do without her ever learning about all of this.<\/p>\n

It looked Seok Ha\u2019s plan to fool the Vice Premier had worked and he was allowed to go free. However, during a visit to the Crown Princess\u2019 private residence, he receives an arrow to the heart.<\/p>\n

Hong Shim\u2019s dad finally reveals the truth about Won Deuk.<\/p>\n

Seok Ha immediately ducks as he finally recognises his sister is right behind Won Deuk, looking his direction. He isn\u2019t spotted. Won Deuk and Hong Shim think it\u2019s Park Sun Do\u2019s thugs again.<\/p>\n

The King is more pressured to make the right decision. On the one hand, he could be criticised for allowing the Queen and Prince Seo Won to remain in their positions despite the attempt to bring harm to the Crown Princess (and unknowingly to the baby) with her use of a talisman. But on the other hand, deposing her too hastily could blemish his rein in the history books.<\/p>\n

Jung Jae Yoon, who thought he was being quite smart for locating the talisman, is told by his half-brother he was used by the Vice Premier when he found it and had effectively thrown the Queen to take the blame for the Crown Prince’s assassination. It’s a crime Jung Jae Yoon thinks the Queen is behind, but his half-brother assures the Queen had nothing to do with the assassination. He would know since he’s in charge of carry such orders out, but he did no such thing.<\/p>\n

The declaration from his brother seem to have given Jung Jae Yoon a thought. He requests a favour from his brother consisting of an official’s uniform and riding a palanquin. They’re not the most brotherly of brothers, but his brother grants it. Dressed in an official\u2019s uniform and riding a palanquin, he uses these two favours to pass the guarded gates to enter the library where all the records are stored. Here, he learns the Vice Premier could possibly be behind the Crown Prince\u2019s death. Jung Jae Yoon switches strategy and works on a plan to get close to the Vice Premier.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk uses Hong Shim\u2019s shoes as testers for seeing if the thugs are still around. It\u2019s a good way to have her lose her shoes so that he can present her with the silk peach blossom embroidered shoes he bought for her last episode<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After a short moment of speechlessness, Hong Shim moves to confess about the fact he\u2019s not Won Deuk only to be interrupted by Won Deuk who tells her he knows what she wants to say. He thinks she\u2019s about to reveal she\u2019s actually noble. As he kept on providing proof and she kept denying the fact, Hong Shim loses the chance to reveal the truth to him.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk\u2019s not-so-bright moment is back. Kkyeut Nyeo brings by some rainbow rice cakes from the villagers\u2019 celebrations for the magistrate\u2019s dismissal. Won Deuk goes wide-eyed, thinking the cakes are made of rainbows! Kyeut Nyeo\u2019s little laughter is how we reacted, too. Both Kkyeut Nyeo and Gu Dol now doesn\u2019t think Won Deuk\u2019s a Good for Nothing or dumb, just unpredictable.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk seems not to have eaten or heard of the cake. Hong Shim sees this as a chance to try get him to try remember what he likes to eat in hopes of getting a lead on where he\u2019s from. Instead of telling him he\u2019s not Won Deuk, she\u2019d try to get him to remember on his own. It doesn\u2019t get far. Won Deuk remembers liking meat pancakes and enjoying it at Park Sun Do\u2019s place before remembering having it a bit before then when Gu Dol stuffed one in his mouth (Episode 5<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Seok Ha learns from Gu Dol the husband-wife relationship Hong Shim has with the Crown Prince. He tells his men he will handle the task of the Crown Prince alone and orders them to head back to wait for him. His men are unsure why they need to wait when the Crown Prince is within their reach. Seok Ha responds it’s because the woman with him is his sister.<\/p>\n

Seok Ha\u2019s plan, to fake the death and burial of the Crown Prince. Seok Ha brings a severed hand which is not the Crown Prince’s as a way of proving he\u2019s buried the body. He explains that moving the body through the capital would have been difficult so he buried it at a valley in Mount Chunwoo. This seems to satisfy the Vice Premier.<\/p>\n

Vice Premier pressures the King to depose the Queen, using the people\u2019s diminishing respect for the King yet again as means to get the King to go through with it. A King must know when to be heartless, he says, because the whole nation will be put into jeopardy if he lets emotions get in the way. Forgiving crimes of family members will have people no longer respecting him.<\/p>\n

The King may be weak, but he\u2019s not ignorant. He knows and tells the Vice Premier he knows the Vice Premier has been stirring up the people to think such things. With that out, the Vice Premier demands a blank piece of paper stamped with the King\u2019s seal for future use. After stamping the seal, he will then stop the protests for the deposing of the Queen and Prince Seo Won.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk has been putting some thought into how to deal with the incident at the barley field which had nothing to do with Park Sun Do. But as he believes it is the nobleman\u2019s doing, he decides on shooting an arrow with a letter in the Royal Inspector\u2019s name attached saying that he is watching. He was not wrong when he said he felt he could use a bow and arrow back at the magistrate\u2019s office! From a great distance away, Won Deuk precisely shoots the arrow to land on a beam next to where the nobleman sat.<\/p>\n

Ma Chil, Gu Dol, Kkyeut Nyeo and the others give Hong Shim, her dad and Won Deuk a huge scare when their plans to throw Won Deuk a surprise birthday party has Won Deuk think he killed Ma Chil.<\/p>\n

The fake death had Hong Shim so scared, upset and worried, the thought Won Deuk had killed someone causes her to leave the others and cry. Won Deuk goes after Hong Shim to express how happy he is to see her so worried about him before promising to be with her forever because he\u2019s her husband.<\/p>\n

Kkyeut Nyeo gives Hong Shim perfume so she can have seduce Won Deuk. She tells Hong Shim that although they might not have slept together (they currently sleep in separate rooms), Kkyeut Nyeo sees that Hong Shim likes Won Deuk and Won Deuk likes her, regardless of the fact that Won Deuk feels like a stranger to Hong Shim and that he doesn’t recognise her.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk demand Hong Shim address him as \u201cMy Dear Husband\u201d as a birthday gift since she didn\u2019t get him one. It\u2019s a demand she seems shy to say, but calls him her Dear Husband loudly after more encouragement.<\/p>\n

Hong Shim tries to take off when Won Deuk notices she\u2019s put on perfume for him. Won Deuk doesn\u2019t know the story, but before heading in to the room, Kkyeut Nyeo had given the perfume to her suggesting she use it to seduce Won Deuk with it because she can tell Hong Shim likes Won Deuk, and Won Deuk likes Hong Shim. Won Deuk didn\u2019t let her go and leans in to kiss her, only to be stopped by his own words he said to her on their wedding night. Those words, she can’t touch him until he regains his memory. He tries to lie about not remembering that, but it doesn’t fool her. She tells him that he must remember who he was and what he used to do if he wants to sleep with her.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk is rewarded with four rolls of silk by his own father, the King (not that the King realises this), for the ledger Won Deuk found which lead to the former Songjoo Village magistrate\u2019s arrest for corruption. With the Songjoo Village magistrate position empty, the Vice Premier recommends Joon Jae Yoon and is made Songjoo Village’s new magistrate as a way to have Jung Jae Yoon prove himself as one of his men.<\/p>\n

Won Deuk really wants Hong Shim. To try make Hong Shim believe his memory has returned, Won Deuk takes up Gu Dol\u2019s idea of mentioning likely date locations, like going to the market and buying Hong Shim a red hair ribbon and how that was followed by a visit to a swing which Won Deuk says was before he left to the military. His story is disputed when Hong Shim says she hung the swing 2 months ago. There was no way his story would be believed by her. It\u2019s not only the swing that caught him out, but he mentioned about how they ended spending the night at the windmill after taking shelter from the rain. The night at the windmill is Hong Shim\u2019s lie. It never happened.<\/p>\n

To have Won Deuk learn how his memory is far from having returned, Hong Shim sends Won Deuk on a job under the Solutions Agency. His task is to meet an old lady to get a brood hen. What he learns, how he learns the fact he’s not Won Deuk isn’t revealed in this episode, but looking forward to Episode 9, nothing is revealed what or how he learns the fact either. The suggestion is that this lady is possibly related to Won Deuk and she had Won Deuk learn the truth. Maybe the old lady was the mother.<\/p>\n

This was one cool episode! We loved seeing Won Deuk take down those thugs with a little twig and Hong Shim’s genuine concern for the wound across his arm when his arm got slashed. They’re finally caring for each other like husband and wife!!<\/p>\n
