behind the video

This 30-second animation is an end-of-module assignment given to the multimedia class (attended in 2002). The company featured in this animation is Destiny—a fictitious company involved in the production of chocolates. Other information given is that it has Irish and Kiwi connections. Other material given is a red-rose background image with the company's logo on it.

In this assignment we were required incorporate all that we've learnt in the modelling and animation modules, using at least two animation techniques. We were also required to symbolise the Irish and Kiwi connection in the animation.

So deciding on a romantic theme that was inspired by the red and the roses of the images provided, I chose to create a dinner setting under the moonlight whereby chocolates are served (chocolates for dinner--very strange I know!). As a backdrop we have fluttering curtains showing the gentle breeze outside, a nice warm, romantic fire burning in the background.

The curtains and the fire were achieved by a couple of features in Lightwave Layout called Motion Designer and adjusting Volumetric Light settings (respectively). To symbolise the Irish and Kiwi heritage, a texture map of the New Zealand flag was used on the placemat, and on the wall, an Irish scroll.
