About Julia and Tania
We love to create multimedia pieces such as music videos and websites. We also love to play around with sound, and in the comfort of our own little rooms, we like to sing too. But what we love most and spend most of our time doing is sit in front of our laptops and writing, coming up with story ideas.
So, what’s with our interest in anything related to the media? Where did it all start? Well, it all stems from our love of the magical box known as the television. Apart from being enthralled in the programmes they air, we dreamed of being able to create our own media. Our first success, although not a television series, was our very first website based on a television series we loved. Within months, we climbed to the top of the list of search engines such as Google and Yahoo!, bringing in hundreds of visitors per day (comparing to other sites on the same subject, it was pretty good
), link-backs, and even a link from the site of one of the actors of the series we loved!
This success led us to even more creations, creating many graphics such as backgrounds, banners, and buttons, animations, and sound compilations. We loved creating so much, we both decided that multimedia design was going to be our chosen road of study.
In 2002, we enrolled as students of Natcoll Design Technology (previously National College of Design and Technology) and graduated in 2003 with the Diploma of Multimedia. By the end of this intensive one-year course, we graduated with skills in web design, audio and video production, 3D modelling and animation, and CD-ROM production using industry standard software such as Dreamweaver, After Effects, Cinestream, Protools, and Lightwave Modeller and Layout, and Flash.
To grasp a greater understanding of the theoretical framework of media production, we moved onto obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication from the University of Canterbury. In 2008, we graduated from the three-year degree, achieving a high standard of understanding and critical analysis of media production in television, film, print (including journalistic practices), and advertising. Shortly following, we became members through invitation of the Golden Key International Honour Society, reserved for students and graduates in the top 15% of their chosen discipline/field of study.
Apart from our interest in multimedia and the media, we also enjoy singing, writing, playing sports, and cooking. We also love technology and anything shiny.
